How to play Up the Floors
Ride a glass elevator up a 120-floor tower over an imaginary Istanbul. Every floor asks one quick question — memory, attention or a fast check — and gives you 10 seconds to answer.
Answer right and the elevator climbs. Answer wrong, or run out of time, and the cable snaps: you drop all the way back to floor 1. How high can you get?
How to play
- Press ▲ to call the elevator.
- Read the question on the panel. Some show something first — a number, lit buttons, a list — then ask about it.
- Answer within 10 seconds to go up one floor.
- A wrong answer or timeout sends you back to floor 1. Questions never repeat within a ride.
- Press the red Emergency button whenever you like to stop and put your highest floor on the Top 100.
The rules
- The tower has 120 floors. Each floor is one question with a 10-second limit — the bar on the panel shows the time left and the last three seconds tick.
- Right answer: the elevator climbs one floor. Wrong answer or no answer: the cable snaps and you fall to floor 1. That is a “fall”.
- Inside one ride a question is never asked twice, the same type never comes twice in a row, and quick-math floors are never back to back.
- Above floor 30 the elevator starts asking about answers from earlier floors of the same climb. A fall clears that memory.
- Continue: once per climb, after a fall from floor 5 or higher, you can return to the floor you fell from. The fall still counts.

What kind of questions?
- Quick check — Is “34 − 18 + 6 = 22” right? Yes or no — fast.
- Number memory — A number flashes. Type it back.
- Colour words — The word BLUE printed in red: answer the ink, not the word (or the other way round).
- Lit buttons — Elevator buttons light up for a moment. How many were lit?
- Button order — Press the buttons in the order they lit up — or in reverse on higher floors.
- Where are you? — Which floor are you on right now? Which floor is 5 below you? Odd or even?
- Odd one out — Nine symbols, one is different. Tap it.
- Dot count — Coloured dots appear. How many were red?
- Word list — A short list of words. Which one was NOT on it?
- Arrows — A row of arrows. Which way did the fourth one point?
- Chains and patterns — Start with 7, double it, subtract 3… What comes next in 3, 6, 12…?
- Spot the change — A grid flashes twice. Did anything change, and where?
- Who got off? — Three passengers, three floors, two clues. Who got off on floor 14?
- Callbacks — On high floors the elevator asks about earlier answers: “Floor 15’s answer × 2?”
- Look back — Symbols appear one by one. Was the last one the same as the one shown a step or two earlier?
Tips for climbing higher
- Read the whole question before you look at the options — colour words and “NOT on the list” are traps on purpose.
- Keep a running note in your head of the floor you are on; the elevator will ask.
- On callback floors, the answer you need is from the same climb. Saying it to yourself once helps it stick.
- Ten seconds is long. A calm answer at second 7 beats a fast wrong one at second 2.
The Top 100
Stop with the Emergency button and enter any nickname (3–20 characters). The board ranks by highest floor; reaching the roof beats everything; ties go to fewer falls, then to whoever got there first. Offensive nicknames are filtered and removed.
Questions
- Is Up the Floors free?
- Yes. You play in the browser at upthefloors.com with no download and no account.
- Do I need to sign up?
- No. There are no accounts. Your best floor is remembered on your device; the Top 100 only needs a nickname you choose.
- How long is a climb?
- You have up to 10 seconds per floor, so a perfect climb to the roof takes under 20 minutes. Most climbs end much earlier.
- What happens when I get one wrong?
- The cable snaps and you fall back to floor 1. The question you missed won’t come back in the same ride.
- Can I continue after a fall?
- Once per climb, if you fell from floor 5 or higher, you can go back to the floor you fell from. On the web that takes a short break. The fall still counts for the Top 100.
- How does the Top 100 work?
- Press the red Emergency button to stop the ride and enter a nickname. Highest floor wins; reaching the roof beats everything; ties go to fewer falls, then to whoever got there first.
- Can I cheat with a script?
- Questions, answers and the 10-second clock are checked on our server, and the score is built there. Automated runs are removed.
- Is there an app?
- iPhone and Android apps are on the way. The web version works on any phone or computer today.
- Which languages?
- English and Turkish. The game follows your device language and you can switch with the EN/TR button.
- Is it suitable for children?
- Up the Floors is made for players aged 13 and up.
